How It Compares
Why Not Just Use an Online Will Kit?
- ·Generic templates, not province-specific
- ·No licensed professional involved
- ·Execution errors can void the document
- ·No witness or notarization support
- ·You're on your own if something is wrong
- ✓Province-specific documents, every time
- ✓Licensed legal professional prepares everything
- ✓Signed, witnessed, and notarized in one hour
- ✓Free annual updates included
- ✓Legally valid across Canada
- ·Hourly billing — costs vary widely
- ·Multiple appointments and revisions
- ·Weeks to complete in many cases
- ·Update fees for every change
- ·High quality, but high cost
A DIY will kit costs less upfront — but an incorrectly executed will can be challenged or voided entirely, leaving your family with nothing. The cost of fixing a bad will after the fact is almost always higher than doing it right the first time.
Common Questions
Pricing FAQ
What exactly is included in the flat rate?
Every package includes four legally prepared and executed documents: a Legal Will, an Enduring Power of Attorney (for financial and legal decisions), a Healthcare Directive (for personal and medical decisions), and a Guardian Appointment for minor children. All documents are signed, witnessed, and notarized at your appointment. Free annual updates are included for as long as you are a client.
Is a will prepared by Wills Made Easy legally valid across Canada?
Yes. Every document is prepared by a licensed legal professional in your province, in full compliance with your province's specific wills and estate legislation. Alberta clients receive documents prepared under the Wills and Succession Act. Ontario clients under the Succession Law Reform Act. BC clients under the Wills, Estates and Succession Act (WESA). Each province has different document names and execution requirements — your legal professional handles all of it.
How does $395 compare to what a law firm would charge?
A traditional law firm typically charges $800–$1,500 for a comparable set of estate documents, billed at an hourly rate that can vary based on complexity and how many calls, drafts, and revisions are involved. Wills Made Easy charges a single flat rate — no hourly clock, no surprise invoices. The documents are prepared in advance using your questionnaire, reviewed at your appointment, and signed in one hour.
When should I update my will after it's done?
You should review your will any time your life circumstances change significantly — marriage or divorce, the birth or adoption of a child, the death of a beneficiary or executor, a major change in assets, or a move to a different province. As a general rule, a review every three to five years is good practice. Wills Made Easy includes free annual updates with every package, so keeping your documents current costs nothing.
Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
No. After booking, you'll receive a short questionnaire — most clients complete it in 10–15 minutes. Your answers are used to prepare all four documents before you arrive. At your appointment, you review, request any changes, sign, and you're done. Bring government-issued photo ID. Everything else is handled.
